Mentoring in Medicine & Science offers an array of trainings to meet your needs.  Our trainings are open to anyone interested in receiving more education/certification around a number of health related topics.  Our trainers are comfortable working with youth and adult populations and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Current trainings include:

We are happy to work with you to provide customized trainings for your needs. We offer discounts to educators and non-profit organizations.  We can host your training in our Oakland office or bring the training to you (minimum 10 or more individuals). 

CPR/AED

Basic First Aid

This 2-year certification course is ideal for community members of all ages interested in learning how to respond to a variety of first aid issues. The course covers:

​​Adult Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid teaches you to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. 

WHAT IT COVERS: 
  • Common signs an symptoms of mental health challenges 
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance us challenges 
  • How to connect a person with help 
  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care 

THREE WAYS TO LEARN:
  • In-person- Learners receive their training during a 7.5 hour, instructor-led, in-person session 
  • Blended- Learners complete a 2-hour, self-paced online course and participate in a 3.4-5.5 hour, instructor-led training. Training can be a video conference or an in-person class

​Teen Mental Health First Aid
Build a powerful community of teens ages 15-18 by teaching them how to support a friend or classmate with the evidence-based teen Mental Health First Aid course. 

WHAT IT COVERS:
  • How to open the conversation about mental health and substance use challenges 
  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges 
  • The impact of school violence and bullying on mental wellbeing 
  • How to seek the help of responsible and trusted adult 
​THREE WAYS TO LEARN:
  • In-person- Lessons are conducted in-person in six 45-minute sessions or three 90-minute sessions 
  • Blended- Six lessons consist of a self-paced online lesson follow by a live, instructor-led session held in person or over video conference 

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid​ teaches you to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 12-18. 

WHAT IT COVERS:
  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). 
​THREE WAYS TO LEARN:
  • In-person- Learners receive their training during a 7.5 hour, instructor-led, in-person session 
  • Blended- Learners complete a 2-hour, self-paced online course and participate in a 3.4-5.5 hour, instructor-led training. Training can be a video conference or an in-person class

N95 Mask Fit Test

A fit test’ qualitatively checks the seal between the N95 mask’s, or respirator's, face piece and your face. The purpose of the fit test is to assure that the mask fits and seals properly so potentially contaminated air cannot leak into the mask and so hazardous substances are kept out.

On-site training available for groups of 10 or more (may incur a travel fee)​
