Summer Internship Program: An immersive 4-week, full-time program designed to give underrepresented individuals interested in the field of health and medicine a holistic experience that will support their future endeavors as providers.
MADE Program (Mentorship Advances Discovery and Exploration): 3-month program for underrepresented minority (URM) individuals with an interest in behavioral health careers. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Current high school students will not be considered. Participants shadow substance use navigators (SUNS) in clinical and community settings and receive pre-employment and hands-on training.
Mentor Program: The MIMS Mentor Program pairs post-secondary students and graduates with a health professional or health professional student for a 6-month period. This program is designed to give participants access to individual mentorship, webinars and additional resources that will provide a competitive edge as participants prepare to apply to health professional school.
Surveys and interviews are conducted to gather information about Mentoring and Medicine & Science (MIMS) program participants, alumni, and/or applicants and improve our programming. Answers to application, survey, or interview questions may be used for research or business development purposes, and in some cases, identifying information may be linked to your responses. Any photos, videos, recordings obtained during MIMS programs may also be used for research or business development purposes.
Your participation in our programs, applications, surveys, interviews, and feedback requests are always optional. Thank you for your interest in the 2024 MIMS Summer Internship! The Summer Internship is an intensive 4-week program that will take place from June 3rd to June 28th, 2024 and allow students to explore their interests in medical careers.
Program Overview
Interact with a broad spectrum of health professionals through workshops and networking
Participate in virtual site visits to health institutions and health professional schools
Participate in leadership, personal and professional development workshops
Receive one-on-one mentorship and advising
Receive health certifications such as CPR/First Aid, Stop the Bleed and Mental Health First Aid
Shadow health professionals in patient care settings, including a busy, urban emergency department, out-patient clinics and private clinics (Dependent on COVID-19)
Receive a stipend after successful completion of the program
Program Eligibility
Be from a racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in the health professions
Have an interest in pursuing a career in health
Be available to participate during the entire duration of the 4-week program M-F from 9am-4pm (subject to change)
Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Currently our plan is to offer a fully in-person program model and follow all public health precautions for in-person components to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure participant safety. Participants will have to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination as well as submit necessary health records for clinical shadowing.

The MIMS Mentor Program is a 6-month program commitment that will offer participants the opportunity to:
• Be matched with a health professional or health professional student
• Interact with their mentors to discuss current academic, professional and personal goals
• Participate in networking and webinar events hosted by MIMS
Program Eligibility:
• Be from a group that is underrepresented in the health workforce
• Commit to the 6-month program with a minimum of one individual check-in each month for the duration of the program
• Be a college student, graduate or post-baccalaureate student
